The starting point for these studies is an integral reptesentation for the electric and magnetic fields. In this paper, a derivation of the necessary field representation is presented which proceeds the first order Maxwell equations alone without recourse to the second order vector Green s theorem. The approach yields a compact expression involving a Green s matrix whose components have a simple and direct physical interpretation. The formulation includes Kottler line sources where necessary without additional assumptions and clearly identifies the undesirable singularities.
