Then an introduction for the basic knowledge and research in MIPv6 and FMIPv6 protocol is given. A fast handover scheme of WiMAX network which based on FMIPv6 protocol is suggested, which implements the fast handover at IP layer associating with MAC layer at the same time. scheme minimizes handover latency by predicting and preparing This the impending handover in advance. Finally, simulation are carried out to evaluate the performance of this fast handover scheme. The result of the simulation shows that the fast handover scheme has good performance.

Handover between various networks or cells of the same network is an important problem faced by mobile nodes. With so many handover algorithms available, how to evaluate and select them become critical. A mathematical model for Wrong Decision Probability and Handover Probability is given in this paper such that they can be used as criteria to evaluate handover algorithms. Explicit expressions for these two parameters are vigorously studied via a general bandwidth based handover algorithm. A WDP predication based handover algorithm is also proposed to improve the handover performance.

We investigate channel allocation policies that choose among incoming handover requests to a particular cell. Within a class of non-reserving policies that efficiently utilize the scarce channel resources, we identify a Most Critical First policy that is optimal with respect to handover failure probability. The proof of optimality is accompanied by the description of two techniques to realize the policy in practice. Simulation results that demonstrate its improvement over previous policies are presented as well.

In this paper, we integrate the channel assignment and power assignment into a distributed channel access algorithm. A cost-function is introduced to provide some optional channels according to their cost for transmitted power level searching. The simulation results show that this algorithm largely increases capacity compared with the fixed channel allocation (FCA). The proposed algorithm can adapt to the call saturated state of network and does not cause high intracell handover access. It has a short average call setup time even at high traffic loads. We suggest that the intracell handover rate should be a factor in evaluation of an algorithm’s performance, because high handover access will intensively increase the load of switch and cause much higher call dropping and blocking probabilities than those we expect.
